SFA Music Preparatory Division Recitals Scheduled

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present a series of recitals Saturday, May 3, through Monday, May 12. The recitals, which provide an opportunity to showcase the talents and accomplishments of the students enrolled in the various programs, are free and open to the public.

Each Suzuki violin student of Brenda Josephsen will perform in either the 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. recital on Saturday, May 3, in the Music Recital Hall, Room 160 of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

Two separate recitals will be held on Tuesday, May 6, in the Music Recital Hall. At 6 p.m., students of Jennifer Kirby (flute), Ashley Wilson (clarinet), Weston Fisher (horn), David LaClair (percussion) and piano students of Kelly Carstens and Hyera Kim will perform.

At 7:30 p.m., cello students of Dr. Evgeni Raychev, classical guitar students of Alan Scott and violin students of Dr. Jennifer Dalmas will present their recital.

The Piney Woods Youth Orchestra, directed by Raychev and Dalmas, will present its end-of-the-semester concert at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in Cole Concert Hall.

The Live Wire and Lyric Choirs, directed by Jennifer Weems, will present a joint concert at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in the Music Recital Hall.

Later that same day, piano students of Linda Parr will perform at 2 p.m. in Cole Concert Hall, and Dr. Ping-Ting Lan's students will present their recital at 4 p.m. in the same venue.

Mary Cooper's piano students will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in Cole Concert Hall.

The recital season will conclude on Monday, May 12, with vocal students of Dr. Deborah Dalton, Dr. Scott LaGraff and John Charles Green performing at 6 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall.

The Music Preparatory Division has been offering musicianship classes and private instruction for East Texas students for over 25 years. It is a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
