NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Patricia Card in a guest clarinet recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Cole Concert Hall of SFA's Wright Music Building.
Card, associate professor at Sam Houston State University, and Christopher Ayer, SFA, associate professor, will present a program of works written for two clarinets. Kae Hosoda-Ayer, lecturer at Baylor University, will assist on piano.
"This recital is something Patricia and I have been wanting to do for a long time," said Ayer. "It's a very audience-friendly program that is just plain good fun to play and listen to."
Included on the program are three of Johannes Brahms' "Hungarian Dances" and Gary Shocker's "Sonata for Two Clarinets and Piano," which Ayer describes as "an energetic and wonderfully tuneful piece with many surprising twists." The musicians will also present works by John McCabe and Felix Mendelssohn.
The trio will perform the same program at Sam Houston State University on Monday, Feb. 25, and Ayer will present a master class for Card's students. While Card is at SFA, she will reciprocate with a master class for Ayer's students.
Admission to the recital is free. For more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
