NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Applications for two types of financial assistance are now available for families interested in enrolling their children in music instruction through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division.
Parents can apply for need-based scholarships that cover up to 50 percent of tuition by completing the scholarship application form available at www.music.sfasu.edu/prep and turning it in by Friday, Aug. 1.
Applications for the Sponsor-a-Child program are available in the Music Preparatory Division office, Room 150 of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus, and are also due by Friday, Aug. 1.
"Through this unique program, a selected child is sponsored and sustained in his/her study of music by private donations," explained Pat Barnett, division director. "The child can continue in Music Prep as long as the criteria adopted by the division's advisory board continue to be met."
The Music Preparatory Division offers private instrumental and vocal lessons, musicianship classes, Kindermusik for newborns to 5-year-olds, three children's choirs and the Pineywoods Youth Orchestra.
"Our goal is to provide excellent musical training on any level of proficiency and to nurture the musical awareness of children," said Barnett.
