NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The East Texas Baroque, an ensemble composed of four Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty members, will perform Italian Baroque music during its fall recital at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
Flutist Christina Guenther, violinist Jennifer Dalmas, cellist Evgeni Raychev and harpsichordist Ron Petti all earned their doctor of music degree from Florida State University where they studied period instrument performance practice in addition to their respective modern instruments.
Guenther explained that while the harpsichord is the only instrument that is a period instrument (the flute, violin and cello played are all modern instruments), the group strives to provide informed performances with regard to Baroque performance practice.
The ensemble will perform works by Pietro Locatelli, one of the greatest violinists of his day, and Arcangelo Corelli, who set the standard of quality in the Baroque Trio Sonata, explained Dalmas.
The musicians will close the concert with "Trio Sonata in D minor, RV63" by Antonio Vivaldi, best known for his many concertos such as "The Four Seasons."
The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
