NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the SFA Percussion Ensemble in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The 12-member ensemble will present works from a wide variety of percussion and musical styles, explained Scott Harris, SFA percussion director.
"The program will include 'Bicksa,' an exciting and aggressive drum quartet by Thom Hasenpflug, and 'Take a Stand,' a piece by Ian Smith that is performed entirely on music stands," Harris said.
Senior percussionists David LaClair, of Eustace; David Lipe, of Wylie; and Kayla Roth, of Lufkin; will present "Trio per Uno" by Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic.
A large ensemble feature of the concert will be a performance of Michael Hennagin's "Duo Chopinesque." The contemporary piece, inspired by and loosely composed around the "Prelude in E minor" by Frederic Chopin, showcases the awesome range of percussion color, texture and orchestration," Harris said.
The concert will close with an arrangement of Billy Barber's "Invention" which was originally recorded by Flim and the BB's.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS, or purchase tickets on-line.
