NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music invites East Texans to "travel" to major European cities by attending any or all of the four concerts included in the 2008 Chamber Music in the Pines Festival, "A Musical Tour of Europe," Saturday, July 12, through Sunday, July 20."Each of the concerts will focus on music from or associated with a different European country," explained Jennifer Dalmas, SFA assistant professor of music and the festival's director.
"A Night in Seville" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12; "An Evening in Vienna" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15; "Un Soir à Paris" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, and "An Afternoon in London" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20. All concerts will be held in the Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus, 2210 Alumni Dr.

Meredith Maddox, violinist with the Arkansas Symphony; Melissa Lewis, violist at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla.; Kae Hosoda-Ayer, lecturer of collaborative piano at Baylor University; and mezzo-soprano Kimberly LaGraff, vocal instructor with the SFA Music Preparatory Division, will join SFA faculty members Scott LaGraff, baritone; Christina Guenther, flute; Christopher Ayer, clarinet; Charles Gavin, horn; Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Gene H. Moon, viola; Evgeni Raychev, cello; and Ron Petti, piano and harpsichord, in presenting the concerts.
"A Night in Seville," will feature piano trios by Spanish composer Joaquin Turina, a piece for two violins by Pablo de Sarasate, and Scott and Kimberly LaGraff performing selections from "Carmen" and "Don Giovanni."
"An Evening in Vienna" will include chamber string works such as F.J. Haydn's "The Joke" quartet, W.A. Mozart's Quintet in G minor and Franz Schubert's "Rosamunde" quartet.
Featuring a wide range of musical periods, "An Afternoon in Paris" includes a Paris quartet by Baroque composer G.P. Telemann, a flute sonata by 20th century composer Francis Poulenc and Gabriel Faure's first piano quartet.
The concluding concert, "An Afternoon in London," features SFA woodwind and brass faculty presenting one of F.J. Haydn's "London" trios, a set of Bagatelles by Gerald Finzi, a sonata by Edmund Rubbra and a trio for horn, violin and piano by Lennox Berkeley.

Season tickets are $30 for adults, $22.50 for seniors and $15 for students. Single event tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $5 for students.
