SFA to Present the Piney Woods Camerata in Concert

Sylvia Bierschenk - April 15, 2008

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Piney Woods Camerata at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Cole Concert Hall.

The Piney Woods Camerata is a conductor-less ensemble led by SFA string faculty Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Gene H. Moon, viola; and Evgeni Raychev, cello. In the inaugural performance in November, orchestra teachers throughout the region joined in the performance.

For the April concert, the Camerata is collaborating with SFA string students and special guest, Andrew Parr, SFA professor of music, who will join the musicians as harpsichordist for the performance.

The concert will feature Arcangelo Corelli's "Concerto Grosso No. 2" as part of the group's mission to perform all 12 concerti grossi of the Italian composer and violin virtuoso before the 300th anniversary of his death in 2013.

The program also includes works by some of Corelli's contemporaries--Alessandro Scarlatti, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Antonio Vivaldi.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
