Agroforestry Management combined forestry
and agricultural techniques to create a more integrated, diverse,
productive and sustainable land-use system. An agroforester must
understand not only the basic premises and methodologies of forest
management, but those commonly applied in agriculture and range
management as well. The resulting practices must be an intentional
blending of trees with crops and/or livestock to develop the intensive
management of the interactions of all biotic and abiotic components
into an integrated management system.
The Agroforestry
Management major in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry is
designed to provide the student with a unique combination of skills
for natural resource management. Taking advantage of the strong
forestry tradition at SFA, this degree adds the important components
of range management, wildlife management and agriculture.
