Graduate Programs in Geology

The MS in geology program requires completion of 30 semester hours of graduate geology (which could include some approved courses in other science disciplines), including 24 semester hours of course work and six hours of thesis research and writing.

MSNS students wishing to develop a concentration in geology should have an undergraduate background in geology. The MSNS degree may consist of 36 semester hours of graduate courses without a thesis or 24 semester hours of graduate courses plus six hours of thesis research and writing (Geology 589 and 590).

The professional certificate programs for earth science or life-earth middle school science teaching may be accomplished as a: (1) concentration in earth science in the MSNS program with a major in natural sciences, or (2) by fulfilling the requirements for the various Masters's degree programs offered in the College of Education.

A graduate minor in geology consists of a minimum of nine semester hours of graduate courses in geology.
