American Association of Petroleum Geologists - SFA Student Chapter

Welcome to the home page of SFA's student chapter of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Our chapter is focused on presenting geology students with job contacts, educational opportunities, and chances to provide community service. We regularly attend AAPG events, such as the national convention and the student job expo. We also take part in the AAPG Visiting Geologist program, and we occasionally sponsor petroleum short courses unique to SFA. Other annual events the AAPG student chapter participates in or sponsors are camp-outs, field trips, and SFA's homecoming festivities.

The AAPG holds meetings through the semester. Any SFA student with an interest in geology is encouraged to attend. For meeting times and membership information, please contact or call the Geology Department at (936) 468-3701.

National Convention

Our main goal for this academic year is to attend the national convention during the summer of 2009 in Denver, Colorado. Please attend the AAPG student chapter meetings for more information on our preparations for the convention. These conventions are the main opportunity we students have to meet professional working in the energy industry. Several SFA students have landed jobs as a result of contacts made at the convention. Plus, the student field trips are always great! The next one will be to see fascinating geology in Colorado and Wyoming -- including visits to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks!

Our officers this year are: President: Jessica DeLeon; Vice-President: Sarah Powers; Secretary: xxxx; Treasurer: xxx.
