The Foundation was established in 1975 on the premise that excellence be determined by the active involvement of knowledgeable individuals interested in the future of Stephen F. Austin State University. Specifically, it solicits, receives, holds, invests and expends private funds exclusively for the benefit of the university.
The Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation under the laws of the State of Texas for the sole purpose of supporting the mission of the university. The Foundation is a necessary and beneficial component of the university’s overall program for university advancement and for the development of private sources of funding for capital acquisition, operations, endowments, and other purposes relating to the mission of the university. The direction and management of the affairs of the Foundation and the control and disposition of its assets is vested in its Board of Trustees. The Foundation’s fund raising efforts, activities and operations are coordinated through the Offices of University Advancement and Development.
Throughout its history, the Foundation has dedicated its resources to assist the university in maintaining a strong leadership position in higher education within Deep East Texas and the state. Voluntary gifts to the Foundation enrich not only the university, but also the city and region through the funding of programs and projects, which would otherwise be unavailable when allocating scarce public resources.
