Graduate School

Welcome to an Elite Class - The Graduate School at Stephen F. Austin State University

The Program

The SFA Graduate School offers 39 master's and three doctoral degrees. Graduate students select from a wide range of courses that are offered both in the traditional classroom setting and online. SFA graduate students have the opportunity to work side-by-side with professors on important research projects, study abroad in places like China, Costa Rica and Italy, and further develop their work and leadership skills by serving in internship programs throughout the community.

The People

SFA enrolls approximately 13,000 students (1,590 graduate students) in its six outstanding colleges: business, education, fine arts, forestry and agriculture, liberal and applied arts, and sciences and mathematics. Graduate students benefit from advisors who meet with students regularly to help ensure they stay on track. Class sizes are small so students get lots of personal attention from faculty who act as mentors. At SFA, you're a person not a number!

The Place

SFA is located in Nacogdoches, known as "The Oldest Town in Texas." The 418-acre campus has 29 academic buildings, each filled with the latest technology to help students make the grade. Almost 5,000 students call the SFA campus home and live in 16 residence halls. Since 2006, more than $216 million in new facilities and updates have been completed. Boasting one of the largest libraries in the state and instructional and computer labs in almost every building, graduate students have the resources they need to succeed.

The Pride

Chartered in 1923, SFA began as a teachers' college, so at its core the university is deeply rooted in education. Rated a Tier 1 Regional University by U.S. News and World Report, today SFA stands out with award-winning programs in every college. From discovering asteroids to wildlife genetics research, SFA offers graduate students unique opportunities that help prepare them for life!

The Perks

Rest your brain and exercise your body in SFA's new Student Recreation Center. Racquetball, sand volleyball and basketball courts give you an opportunity to blow off steam with your friends, or take the solo approach and float down a lazy river, climb the rock wall, jog on the indoor track or workout on treadmills, elliptical machines and weights. The Baker Pattillo Student Center houses a 383-seat movie theater, Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, and tons more amenities to help you relax and have fun.

The Payoff

Did you know people who hold a master's degree make approximately $2.67 million in in their lifetime? It's true. A master's degree significantly boosts your earnings. Is it worth the time and effort you'll put in? There's no question, YES!
