Appointments and Medical Emergencies
Patients with urgent medical conditions will be seen immediately. Otherwise, all Doctor visits require an appointment. For life threatening Emergencies call 911. There are two local hospitals that have 24 hour, 7 days per week emergency room services. They are Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, 1204 Mound Street (936) 564-4611; and Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital, 4920 E. Stallings Drive (936) 569-9481.
Appointments are scheduled between 8:30 am - 11:30 am and 1 pm - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday during the Fall and Spring Semesters.
If unable to keep your appointment please call 468-4008 to cancel. If a student is more than 10 minutes late for an appointment time the appointment will need to be rescheduled.
Patients without an emergency or an appointment will be triaged by the nurse and worked into the physician's schedule if necessary, or treated for minor illnesses according to established approved protocol, or advised to make an appointment.
Appointments for Contraceptive Evaluations and Pap Smears need to be made several weeks in advance. The types of birth control prescribed through the clinic include birth control pills and depoprovera injections. IUDs are not prescribed nor inserted. Screening is also done at the time of the exam to detect some sexually transmitted diseases and other nonspecific diseases. We do not screen for HIV. Instead, we refer the student to a private physician or Health Horizon for this screening.
Every student who does not have hospitalization insurance is strongly urged to obtain the University endorsed student health policy or its equivalent to cover after-hours emergencies, hospitalization, and any other medical needs that are not provided by the University Health Clinic. Call or come by the Health Clinic to request policy information. The University endorsed student health policy is provided by an independent company.
