Voices from Small Places - Arcadia, TX
PhotoVoice is a method wherein volunteers are given cameras and journals and asked to respond to a set of guiding questions through photographs and writings. For this project volunteers were asked to address the following questions:
- What places in Arcadia do you value the most and why?
- What places in Arcadia are important to you in your personal history and why?
Using this method, personal remembrances are recorded that are directly tied to specific places within the community. This method, in conjunction with oral history interviews, provides a more intimate understanding of place and how it is interpreted by the individual.
The following short video presentation includes some of the photographs and journal entries provided by volunteers. These long time residents of Arcadia, TX. have seen their community change over the course of time. Through their personal remembrances we can revisit Arcadia as it once was in its heyday.
