Family and Consumer Sciences Goals

2017-2018

  1. Support Say Yes to FCS Initiative
    • To increase visibility of FCS and SFA program
    • To increase enrollment in FCS program
    • Student organization will support monthly calendar themes including one on teamwork, the Dine In again in December and also at least one in the spring.
  2. Conduct recruiting event sponsored by Agr Workers. - promotional speaker/dinner
  3. Involve students in professional organization opportunities by attending conferences, working, and presenting research to encourage professional growth and preparation for careers and leadership opportunities
  4. Expand the Advisory board and include stakeholders such as, teachers, CTE directors, administrators, County extension and community partners to support growth in the program.
  5. Continue to promote and grow the graduate program. Work closely advising graduate students
  6. Facilitate training on Prepac for teachers to build credentials for students in FCS.
  7. Update and maintain the website page.
  8. Streamline the FCS Distance Alliance participation.
  9. Collaborate with students on undergraduate research projects to present at conferences.
  10. Meet with FCS students to design recruiting plan in schools

2016-2017

  4. Expand the Advisory board and include stakeholders such as, teachers, CTE directors, administrators, county extension and communit partners to support growth in the program.
  5. Explore the idea of conducting the Counselor event every other year.
  6. Facilitate training on Prepac for teachers to build credentials for students in FCS.
  7. Continue to update the website program page.
  8. Streamline the FCS Distance Alliance participation.
  9. Collaborate with students on undergraduate research projects to present at conferences.

2015-2016

2014 - 2015

Short-term and long-term

1. Increase program visibility through a combined effort of education, awareness and promotions directed at individuals and the community with specific groups to include students, counselors, administrators, CTE

directors, alumni, and community partners to expand recruiting and increase retention in the program.

a. Education- events, presentations, communication on and off campus

b. Awareness- present opportunities to stakeholders to enhance industry, community and professional partnerships c. Promotion- numerous marketing efforts (evaluate and develop marketing materials)

2. Review the degree program. I am currently reviewing the degree plans to ensure coverage of the AAFCS standards for students in preparation for certification exams and in anticipation of the adoption of new

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills revisions.

3. Participate in the campus undergraduate research event.

4. Bridge the communication gap with program students by

a. meeting regularly with advisors and students - ongoing

b. encourage membership and participation in AAFCS organizations by faculty and students - ongoing.

c. involve students in professional organization opportunities by attending conferences, working, and presenting research to encourage professional growth and preparation for careers and leadership

opportunities. Brittany Ogden is our National student secretary and was selected to attend the Leadership Boot Camp in DC.

5. Program and student participation in events to further goal #1.

7. Promote national accreditations for students to advance credentials.

8. Provide students with an international learning experience specific to FCS to broaden the program and student education- ongoing exploration.

9. Review core courses to ensure curriculum objectives and outcomes reflect higher level thinking skills connected to the college and career readiness standards.

10. Add 25% more majors in 3 years. I will have more accurate info after the 12th day, but I believe I have 6 new students in the program based on the 26 enrolled that would account for almost 25%. I will continue

efforts to grow the program.

11. Promote and grow the graduate program. I have five new graduate students with an FCS focus- very exciting!!! I will continue to market our online program.
