High school seniors may apply for the Vera Dugas awards any time prior to February 1. Only incoming freshmen are eligible for the Dugas Scholarships.
The Dugas Honors Scholarship awards are provided through the generosity of the late Dr. Vera Dugas. The supervision of the awards is by the School of Honors through the granting authority of the SFA Alumni Foundation.
Each Spring the School of Honors will announce three award winners. Each recipient will receive up to $2,500 per semester, for up to eight semesters of study at SFA. (A student may receive up to $20,000.)
Award winners must maintain a grade point average of no less than 3.25 on the university's 4.0 scale. They must participate in the program of the School of Honors and take at least one honors course per semester until a minimum of twenty-five hours is completed. This will entitle the student to graduate with a School of Honors diploma in addition to their primary diploma from SFA.
To apply for a Dugas Honors Scholarship a student must be a high school senior with a minimum SAT score of 1220 or an ACT score of 27. No applications with lower scores will be considered. If the high school provides a ranking of students within the senior class, the student should be in the top quarter. Home schooled students are exempt from this consideration.
To be considered for this award, you must complete the SFA general scholarship application. Please also submit a letter discussing why you merit the scholarship as well as a letter of recommendation from someone who can speak knowledgably about your academic potential.
Outside achievements will be considered in the awards process. Among these might be artistic efforts, professional or occupational activities, significant volunteer work, or worthy activities of other types.
