- Employs an innovative, thorough, and thought provoking approach to the particular research problem or subject of study.
- Clearly presents a claim and supports it with credible data (primary and/or secondary), logical reasoning, case studies, examples, and other appeals, as appropriate.
- Considers other sides or points of view (counterarguments) involved in or impacting the topic.
- Demonstrates why the student’s findings and position either enhance or are superior to earlier studies and/or opposing view points.

- Introduction clearly presents an overview of the topic.
- The overall structure of the research study is logical, unified, and coherent. The study is clearly divided into subsections as needed and appropriate to the discipline.

- Conclusion brings research to a logical close, summarizes findings, and provokes further thought on the topic.
