The housing system at Stephen F. Austin State University consists of residence halls and apartment complexes that house up to 5,000 students.
Living on campus at SFA means living in a community of students. You will be meeting and interacting with many different types of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles. Finding your place on campus is ahead of you. Each community has residence life staff members to help and support you as you find your place in the community. The staff is well trained, energetic, and dedicated to making your experience living on campus education and positive.

Academic Enrichment Center - is located in Hall 10 (female) and in Mays Hall (11) (male). This program is equipped for students who desire a structured living environment designed to enhance educational progress and ease the transition to a university campus. Residents in this program agree to participate in regular tutoring and study hall sessions. Twenty-four hours per day quiet hours, Sunday through Thursday, ten hours per day on Friday and Saturday.
Academic Excellence Center - is located in Wisely Hall 5(coed). This program is for students who desire a stimulating living environment designed to challenge academically talented students. Incoming freshmen students must have a minimum of a 1220 SAT score or 27 ACT score and graduate in the top 25% of their high school class. Transfer students must have a minimum 3.25 cumulative transfer grade point average, with a minimum of 15 transfer hours.
Co-Ed Facilities
Co-ed Halls are North Hall(9), South Hall(12), Hall 14, Steen Hall(17), and Hall 20.
Garner and University Woods Apartments are open 12-months.
At Garner Apartments, any student is qualified to live there and has the choice of two contract period options. Students can choose either a 9-month with breaks contract period or a 12-month contract period. Please see the sample of the Housing Contract.
University Woods Apartments are available to students who are at least 21 years of age or have at least 60 completed hours. You are also eligible to live in these apartments if you are married, have custody of a child, or have permission from the Residence Life Director. Students living at University Woods have a contract period of 12-months. Please see the sample of the Housing Contract.
All residence halls at Stephen F. Austin are non-smoking. Smoking is not permitted in any common area of the residence halls, or the front porch area of the building.
Each residence hall is air-conditioned and each room is equipped with computer, television, and telephone connections; however, students must provide their own electronics.
