M.Ed. with Athletic Director Concentration

Master of Education in Educational Leadership with Athletic Director Concentration

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Become a leader in the field of public-school athletic administration with our new Master of Education in educational leadership with athletic director concentration. Through the important incorporation of field experiences, the 30-hour, fully online athletic director program prepares effective school leaders by teaching the specific skills and knowledge necessary to supervise both coaches and student-athletes.

The field-based component in each course connects the university coursework with transformative leadership experiences in the school setting. The students complete assigned and/or creative experiences that apply directly to each course, the Texas core competencies for administrators and the standards set by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council.

Graduate instruction is designed to complement students' current roles as they achieve new professional goals. Through this 30-hour program, students can fulfill the requirements for this master's degree, learn the skills needed for athletic administration and meet many of the requirements for eventual principal certification while remaining fully employed.

Note: This degree does not provide preparation for a Texas Education Agency certification because there is no State Board of Education certification specifically for athletic directors in Texas.

PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATION Apply to the Graduate School through www.applytexas.org and complete the department application process.

PROGRAM DESIGN The athletic director concentration is offered in an online environment provided by highly qualified and experienced professors. The online program allows students the flexibility to complete their coursework in a time frame convenient for them.
