SFASU VPN Client Installation and Operation

 

 

Note:  IF there is already a VPN client installed on your PC you will need to uninstall it.  This will happen if you have been running a previous version of the VPN client.  The install should ask for permission to do the uninstall and then depending on how the previous install was done, do it for you.  (See the screenshots at the end of this document). 

 

 

You will need to reboot the PC to complete this installation!

 

 

 

Download the SFA VPN Install from mySFA …

 

 

 

Click the  (shown above)

 

 

On the next page. Click on “Download the SFA VPN Client” to download the file and begin the installation.  

 

A box will appear asking if you wish to save or run the file.  Select Run and the download and install process will begin

 

Click  button to allow the install to continue.

 

 

Click   button on this screen to agree to the Licensing information.

 

NOTE:  In addition to the licensing agreement Distribution of this software falls under Federal Export Compliance laws.  DO NOT distribute this software to non-SFA personnel.  When your relationship with SFA ends you are required to uninstall and delete this software.

 

 

Like many other software programs you are prompted for the location to store these programs.   You can accept the default location or choose your own.  This will create a program group named SFASU.

 

Click   button on these next two screens to continue.

 

 

 

Installation is proceeding….

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once the install is complete you will need to restart your PC to activate the software!

 

Click  button to restart your computer.

 

Before using the client for the first time You will need to reboot the PC to complete this installation!

 

If you don’t reboot the client won’t start.

 

 


 

Once the PC is back up you will find a new entry on your programs list:

 

 

CLICK  à à

 

 

On the list you should now see this entry

 

 

 

Click on to start the program.

            NOTE:  You will not use the  option

 

When the client starts you will choose the location from which you are connecting:

 

IF you are OFF Campus    (At Home, Out of Town, Hotel, etc)

Click on 

 

IF you are ON Campus  (SFA-LAWN, in your office, etc)

            Click on

 

Click on the appropriate entry then Click   

 

 

 


On this screen you will enter your mySFA user id and password to authenticate to the system and create the VPN session.

 

 

 

 

When you get this Banner message your session has been authenticated and the tunnel has been established. 

 

           

 

Click      

 

The connection windows will disappear. 

 

You now have an  icon in your system tray.   If the padlock is closed the tunnel is established.   If the padlock is open  the client is running but no tunnel is established.

 

 

 

 

The icon works like other icons in your system tray….

 

You should not see any effect from the client on your communications; for the most part it remains in the background.  

 

NOTE:  Only traffic destined for SFASU servers will be routed through the tunnel.   Traffic to other sites on the Internet will not go through the tunnel and will not be encrypted. 

 

 

 

 

 

When you are ready to Disconnect you can either…

 

            Right-Click on the  to pull up a menu    or

 

 

            Double-Click on the  and pull up the GUI and then click

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Uninstalling a previous client:

 

 

If you get this message:

 

 

You will need to Click  then go to Control Panel /Add Remove Programs and uninstall the previous version manually. 

 

Go back to the beginning of this document and follow the instructions to do the install.

 

 

 

Otherwise:

Shutdown any other applications and Click   button to automatically do the un-install.

 

 

Once the pre-existing client has been un-installed you will be prompted to restart the PC.

 

Click on  button and then  Click on  button.

 

 

As the PC comes back up the installation will continue automatically.
