Leadership is a change agent. Organizations need leaders who can transform others through charisma, hope and empowerment.
Leadership advocates and co-constructs vision. Organizations are looking for communicators who are innovators in changing future courses.
Leadership is working together. Organizations desire motivated members who value their colleagues and look beyond the organization to expand horizons.
The Leadership Minor at SFASU offers students a preparation ground to take the spirit of the ‘Jacks forward into the community. A minor in leadership complements a wide variety of degrees and careers across the university. The overall objective is to provide students with the understanding of leadership models used in organizations and better prepare students for leading organizations through change, establishing vision and coordinating with a diverse and growing global population.
Career Opportunities
The Leadership Minor provides students with practical and theoretical understanding for careers in fields such as academic services, business, education, human services, management, military science, organizational and public communication, political science and public administration.
Purpose and Course Work
The Leadership Minor engages students with different perspectives and principles of leadership to provide greater analytical skills by which to assess and match the complexity of organizational life. Students examine leadership practices across a variety of disciplines. Each perspective will provide students with a core set of ideals and experiences that will assist them in leading organizations in a global community. Students will learn greater appreciation for differences, how to solve problems creatively and how to work in teams.
The leadership minor is available to any student pursuing a BA or BS degree at SFASU. To successfully attain the minor, students will complete 18 hours of interdisciplinary coursework: 9 hours of core classes and 9 hours of electives.
