The road to becoming a Lumberjack
Ready to apply to SFA? We’ve put together a simple checklist to keep the process easy and hassle-free. Follow these steps, and you won’t have to worry about forgetting a thing, from improving your chances of getting a scholarship to lining up your housing. You can also download the Future Student Checklist so you can mark items off your list as you go.
Step 1: Experience SFA in person
Tour campus
Take a road trip to Nacogdoches and see our beautiful campus for yourself. Our maps will help you find a parking spot.
Attend Showcase SFA
Come to one of our Showcase SFA open house events for prospective students and parents. We typically host one event in the fall and two in the spring.
Step 2: Apply to SFA
Create a resume
Assemble a list of activities and honors to help speed up your application process.
Transcript and scores
Send your official high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores to the university.
Apply for admission
It's time to complete your ApplyTexas application! Applying early has its benefits, but there is no deadline to apply. Essays and letters of recommendation are not required.
Admission decision
Look for your decision letter two to three weeks after your completed application is received.
Step 3: Right after you apply
Set up mySFA
Set up your mySFA account as soon as you receive the login credentials by mail.
Get vaccinated
Submit your meningitis shot records to Admissions – it’s required to secure housing. You must submit your shot record to the Office of Admissions by email, fax or mail using the contact information below.
Apply for housing
First-year students are required to live on campus. Complete your residence hall application on mySFA and submit the $100 deposit via mySFA.
Apply for aid and scholarships
You can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) beginning in October. You can start applying for scholarships as early as September.
After you are accepted
Celebrate
Congratulations! You’re a Lumberjack. Take a moment to celebrate!
Tour campus
If you haven’t been to campus yet, come visit. In addition to seeing our beautiful campus, you can also meet with financial aid, faculty and tour a residence hall.
Select your hall
Choose the residence hall you want to live in, and sign the contract via mySFA.
Accept aid awards
Accept or decline any financial aid that you’ve been awarded via mySFA.
Placement testing
Register and take approved placement tests, unless you are exempt.
Get ready for your first semester
Attend orientation
As a new student, you can register online for one of our 5 summer orientations. You’ll need to complete orientation before you can register for classes.
Register for classes
If you attend orientation, you will register for classes via mySFA.
Select your meal plan
After you’re registered for classes, you can select your meal plan.
Attend Jack Camp
Meet your fellow students and learn more about SFA spirit and traditions at Jack Camp, an optional three-day summer program that takes place in Trinity, Texas.
Don’t forget, before classes start
Submit AP scores
If you took AP courses, send your scores to SFA (code 6682).
Submit all final transcripts
Send us your final official high school transcript with a graduation date. Dual Credit or Early College High School students should send college transcripts as well.
