Dean, Nelson Rusche College of Business

“In the Nelson Rusche College of Business, student success is central to our mission, and that mission has three distinct components. We want students to have an exceptional learning experience, we want them to launch successful careers, and we want them to be impactful leaders. This clear focus on the success of students, both inside and out of the classroom, sets Stephen F. Austin and the Nelson Rusche College of Business apart from many other institutions of higher education.”

What drew you to the higher education world?

Higher education provided the perfect opportunity to combine a passion for lifelong learning and the creation of knowledge with the desire to teach others. Together with the fact that the education earned by students in this setting has a significant and positive impact on quality of life makes this career a very special one.

What do you enjoy most about your role at SFA?

I enjoy most the fact that, as dean, I am in a position to further advance those same opportunities that first attracted me to higher education. Faculty and staff in the Nelson Rusche College of Business share a commitment to lifelong learning and the desire to teach others, and we value the role of academics in the creation of knowledge. We give high priority to student success and embrace the positive impact that higher education can have on the lifelong well-being of our students. As dean, I have the privilege of committing my time to making sure that all faculty and staff in the college have every chance to enhance the opportunities available for student success.

What do you hope students gain from SFA?

Students of the Nelson Rusche College of Business will gain an exceptional education regarding current and relevant topics, a strong commitment to ethical decision-making in a global setting, exceptional leadership skills, a desire for lifelong learning and every opportunity to launch successful careers and become leaders in their chosen career fields.
