A message from the Department Chair, Dr. Mikhail Kouliavtsev

Welcome to the Department of Economics and Finance! We strive to recruit top students and prepare them for continuing their education or launching successful careers in the business world.

An undergraduate economics degree is excellent preparation for pursuing a career in the private, public or nonprofit sectors of our economy. It also is a perfect way to prepare for graduate studies in economics, public policy, or international relations, or for professional programs such as law school or business administration. In fact, economics majors achieve the highest scores on the LSAT exam used to screen law school applicants, and are among the top three majors who score the highest on the GMAT exam used by MBA programs.

Our finance major prepares students to enter any career of their choosing in the world of finance, from portfolio management to personal financial planning. Our BBA in finance also offers concentrations in investment management and financial planning, allowing students to customize their curriculum to match their interests. Finance students who take courses accredited by the Certified Financial Planning Board become eligible to sit for the CFP exam upon graduation.

The Chadwick Banking Program offers our newest area of study and is designed to prepare students for careers in commercial banking. The banking major includes unique real-world experiences, including projects involving local financial institutions, internships and visits to regulatory agencies. Students interested in pursuing a BBA in banking may qualify for scholarships set aside exclusively for this program.

We provide students with unique opportunities to engage through the Economics Reading Group, the Mast Student Investment Roundtable, and several clubs and organizations. Direct involvement with students through the Finance Club, the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, guided research projects, and one-on-one counseling regarding agraduate school application or the job search process are just a few ways our faculty members are dedicated to creating an engaging student experience that prepares students for success beyond their academic careers. Moreover, our faculty hold terminal degrees (in most cases, PhDs in economics or finance) from many of the top universities in the country.

I invite you to look through our website to learn more about our programs and call, email or stop by if we can be of assistance to you.

Thank you for your interest,
