SFA’s Ryan Ivey to join Louisiana Tech as director of athletics, vice president


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University announced Friday that athletics director Ryan Ivey has been named Louisiana Tech’s vice president and director of athletics. He joins the Ruston, Louisiana, university with more than 18 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics.

UT regents name Dr. Neal Weaver as sole finalist for president of Stephen F. Austin State University


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The University of Texas System Board of Regents has unanimously voted to name Neal Weaver, PhD, the sole finalist to become the next president of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. Weaver has served as president of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) — a member of the University of Georgia System based in Americus, Georgia — for the past seven years.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Erika Bazaldua Holland, a 2014 Stephen F. Austin State University mass media graduate who anchors KLTV’s “East Texas News” at midday and 5 p.m., will serve as the interviewer for the fourth installment of the Nelson Rusche Distinguished Lecture Series.

SFA choirs to present ‘Open Your Eyes, Sweet Child’ concert program

SFA announces nine recipients of 2024 Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation grants


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has announced the 2024 recipients of grants issued through its Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation.

The center’s steering committee selected nine proposals with awards totaling more than $215,000. Now in its third year, the CARRI grant program is part of SFA’s effort to support innovation and entrepreneurship in the university’s 12-county coverage region. 

SFA to screen ‘Eat a Bowl of Tea’ film in collaboration with Big Read initiative


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the film “Eat a Bowl of Tea,” a Chinese-American romantic film directed by Wayne Wang based on the novel of the same name by Louis Chu, at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert showcasing varied music of Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and modern composers when the student ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, in W.M. Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building, on the SFA campus.
