NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s Kantorei and Singin’ Axes choirs, directed by Dr. Tod Fish, will present the concert program “Open Your Eyes, Sweet Child” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the SFA campus.

SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. March 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet Street.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has announced the 2024 recipients of grants issued through its Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation.

The center’s steering committee selected nine proposals with awards totaling more than $215,000. Now in its third year, the CARRI grant program is part of SFA’s effort to support innovation and entrepreneurship in the university’s 12-county coverage region.

Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the film “Eat a Bowl of Tea,” a Chinese-American romantic film directed by Wayne Wang based on the novel of the same name by Louis Chu, at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

SFA’s Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony to perform varied concert programs

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert showcasing varied music of Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and modern composers when the student ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, in W.M. Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building, on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University accounting alumni Michelle and Harmon Smith have endowed a new professorship in the Rusche College of Business’ Schlief School of Accountancy.

The Smiths, both of whom graduated from SFA in 1985, know how important faculty members are to a student’s college experience and career launch.

“We firmly believe that the faculty of a university is critical to student success,” Michelle said. “Those faculty members who actively engage with students and challenge their critical thinking make a lasting impact.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Nearly 95% of Stephen F. Austin State University’s May 2023 graduating class reported positive career outcomes within six months of graduation, according to a class-specific survey conducted by the university’s Center for Career and Professional Development, marking a 5% increase from last year’s rate.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, will perform the music of Late Classical Era/Early Romantic German composers W.A. Mozart and Felix Mendelssohn when the student ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in W.M. Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building, on the SFA campus.

Music faculty member Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, violin, will be featured on Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s secondary education program created book-based activity kits for children to enjoy while their caregivers study, work or visit campus.

Intended for children in pre-K through sixth grade, the kits can be found on a book cart on the first floor of SFA’s Steen Library. Currently, there are 15 books to choose from that have adjoining activity kits with instructions.
