How to Apply for Provider Programs (Transfer Credit)

NOTE: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT TRANSCRIPTS FROM ABROAD MAY TAKE 12-15 WEEKS TO ARRIVE AT SFA. IF YOUR SEMESTER ABROAD IS YOUR LAST SEMESTER AT SFA, YOU WILL NOT GRADUATE ON TIME.

STEP 1 - Research

There are many important things to consider when searching for the best study abroad programs. Ultimately, however, the key to finding your perfect study abroad program is landing in a place that best fits your goals, dreams, and personality. This article provides 5 questions to consider when searching for the best study abroad programs for you.

To get started, search for a study abroad program by using the search tools below. You can refine your search by entering a program name, country, subject.

STEP 2 - Eligibility

Before applying, you first must confirm that you meet eligibility requirements for the program and SFA.
Program eligibility is determined by the program provider. In addition to meeting the eligibility set by the provider, you must be approved by through the Course Approval Form (CAF).

STEP 3 - Get Courses Approved for Transfer Credit

Courses that are not taken at SFA are considered transfer courses. In order to receive credit for a non SFA course, you'll need to fill out a Course Approval Form and have it approved by the Office of Admissions, your Advisor and Dean as well as your Study Abroad Coordinator. Students are recommended to have twice as many courses approved as they plan to take abroad in case first choice classes are not offered.

STEP 3 - Complete your SFA Study Abroad Application

The SFA Study Abroad Application is available in the Forms section.

Note: You will have to stop by the cashier's window in the Austin Building to pay the $50 application fee (cash, check, or money order payable to SFA), you will need to present the program payment slip. Unfortunately we do not accept credit cards/online payment. If you aren't in town, you can mail the $50 SFA application fee to our office. See the Contact Us page for our mailing address. If you have studied abroad with SFA before, the application fee is waived.

STEP 5 - Apply to Provider Program

Make sure you know the Provider Program's deadline and follow their instructions carefully.

If you plan to use Financial Aid for your semester abroad, please read the Financial Aid section and submit the appropriate forms to your Financial Aid advisor and Study Abroad Coordinator.

STEP 7 - Attend Pre-Departure Session

You will receive an invitation for this orientation when your SFA application is received.

STEP 8 - Study Abroad!

STEP 9 - Request Transcripts from Provider Program

Verify with your Provider Program that your transcripts are sent to the SFA Office of International Programs ( 404 Aikman Drive, Room 402, Nacogdoches, Texas-75962).

STEP 10 - Complete Program Evaluation

Submit your program evaluation through Abroad 101, you will receive an email with instructions shortly after your return date.
