Provider Programs (Transfer Credit)

How to Apply for Provider Programs (Transfer Credit)

STEP 1 - Research

Learn about Provider Study Abroad programs by attending a General Study Abroad Information Session, searching programs on the SFA Horizons database or on the database.

STEP 2 - Get Courses Approved for Transfer Credit

Courses that are not taken at SFA are considered transfer courses. In order to receive credit for a non SFA course, you'll need to fill out a Course Approval Form and have it approved by the Office of Admissions, your Advisor and Dean as well as your Study Abroad Coordinator. Students are recommended to have twice as many courses approved as they plan to take abroad in case first choice classes are not offered.

STEP 3 - Complete your Application in Horizons

Submit your SFA Study Abroad Application through SFA Horizons. Our application will require you to upload a scan of your current passport, so you may want to have a copy of your passport in-hand when applying. If you do not have access to a scanner, simply skip the passport step on the application and send us a copy of your passport in the mail - our office can upload it for you.

Note: You will have to stop by the cashier's window in the Austin Building to pay the $50 application fee (cash, check, or money order payable to SFA), you will need to present the program payment slip. Unfortunately we do not accept credit cards/online payment. If you aren't in town, you can mail the $50 SFA application fee to our office. See the Contact Us page for our mailing address. If you have studied abroad with SFA before, the application fee is waived.

Don't forget to submit the online recommendation requests! When you submit a recommendation request, an email will automatically be generated to your professor, asking them to complete the recommendation for you.
Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated email confirming your submission. At that point your application status will change from "Incomplete" to "Pending".

You can stop and restart your application at any time - just hit the "Save and Continue Later" button - but make sure that you actually submit the application by the deadline. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated email confirming your submission. At that point your application status will change from "Incomplete" to "Pending".

Once you submit your application, don't forget to pay the $50 application fee.

STEP 4 - Receive Verification from Study Abroad Office

You will receive an admissions decision via email within 7 to 14 days of the application deadline, unless our office tells you otherwise. Your application status will change from "Pending" to "Approved", "Not-Approved", or "Waitlisted". If you are Not-Approved or Waitlisted, we will provide you with a reason why and we will refund you the $50 SFA application fee.

STEP 5 - Congratulations! Your SFA application has been approved!
