Duolingo English Test Information

INFORMATION ABOUT THE DUOLINGO ENGLISH TEST

In addition to accepting copies of score reports from the TOEFL or IELTS, SFA's English, Science, and Mathematics Academy will accept results from the Duolingo English Test to show that you have the required English proficiency to succeed in the Academy.

The Duolingo English test measures the same basic language skills as the TOEFL and IELTS. If you do not already have test scores that would qualify you for acceptance, you may want to consider this option for the following reasons:

  • You may take the test at any time and in any place you wish as long as you can be in a quiet, well-lit room with an internet connection and the required device (a mobile device or computer with a camera and microphone) for about 30 minutes.
  • The test results will automatically be sent to our program within 48 hours, and you will also be able to view your test results.
  • The test is free.**

If you wish to take the Duolingo English Test, please email Elaine Lambright at lambrigheb@sfasu.edu and let her know whether you intend to take the test on a computer or on a mobile device. She will send you the necessary link or coupon code.

- To take the test on a computer, you will open the Google Chrome browser and click the link to create an account. Your coupon will be applied automatically.

- To take the test on a mobile device, you will download the app 'Duolingo English Test', create an account, and start the certification test. You will be asked to type in your coupon during the setup of the test.

You will receive an email notification once your test has been scored and shared. You can also log in to https://englishtest.duolingo.com/ to review your score at any time. If you experience any technical problems with the test, you will see instructions on how to contact Duolingo support (please do not contact the Academy office, as we cannot assist you with technical issues).

** We are offering this test free to the first 25 applicants who take it. After the 25 free tests have been taken, applicants will no longer have the option of using this test to demonstrate English proficiency for the program.
** An individual will not be able to take this test more than once.
