International Students

The Office of International Programs (OIP) offers international students three different options for pursuing studies at Stephen F. Austin State University.

  1. Full SFA Admission
    International students wishing to pursue a university degree in the U.S. are invited to apply for full admission to SFA.
  2. English as a Second Language (ESL)
    The American English Language Institute (AELI) offers a variety of ESL courses for students who wish to study English as a second language. Additionally, AELI courses enable international students to develop the linguistic abilities necessary to succeed in university level courses.
  3. Study Abroad
    International studenst who wish to attend an American university but not pursue a degree in the U.S. are invited to attend SFA as non-degree seeking students.

Admission Policy

International student applicants are evaluated on the quality, content, and level of previous academic work. Graduates from international secondary schools who have completed the equivalent of at least an American high school diploma may apply for admission to SFASU.

Financial Support Guidelines

Guidelines for calculating the amount of financial support a prospective international student will be required to demonstrate upon acceptance to SFA.

There are several scholarship and financial aid options available for international students.

Student Support Services

The OIP and the Multicultural Center provide international student support services.

Insurance Requirements

International students are required to carry health and accidental insurance.
