SFA Music Preparatory Division recitals slated

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - End-of-the-year recitals will be presented during the second and third weeks of May by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's Music Preparatory Division. The recitals, which provide an opportunity to showcase the talents and accomplishments of the students enrolled in the various programs, are free and open to the public.

Piano students of Mary Cooper will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 7, in Cole Concert Hall.

On Monday, May 8, violin and cello students of Dr. Evgeni Raychev, Dr. Jennifer Dalmas and Shane Almanderez will play at 7 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall, Room 160 of the Wright Music Building.

Two different recitals will be presented on Tuesday, May 9. Guitar students of Herb Midgley will perform at 6 p.m. in Room 153 of the Wright Music Building. At 7 p.m., piano students of Christine Silver, Erin Stephens and Molly Weaver will play in the Music Recital Hall.

Harp students of Alison Read will present their recital at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the Music Recital Hall.

Voice students of Dr. Deborah Dalton and Kimberly LaGraff will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in the Music Recital Hall.

On Saturday, May 13, there are four separate recitals. Brenda Josephsen is presenting two recitals of her Suzuki violin students in the Music Recital Hall. Some will perform at 1:30 p.m., and the others at 3:30 p.m. Also at 3 p.m., in Cole Concert Hall, Linda Parr's piano students will perform.

Also on May 13, piano students of James Faucett, Dr. Kae Hosoda-Ayer and Dr. Ping-Ting Lan will present a combined recital with Weston Fisher's horn student and Michelle Sellers' flute students at 5 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall.

On Sunday, May 14, the Children's Chorus, under the direction of Jennifer Weems, will perform at 2 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall, and the Pineywoods Youth Orchestra will perform at 4 p.m. in Cole Concert Hall. The orchestra is conducted by Dr. Evgeni Raychev, and Dr. Jennifer Dalmas serves as the associate conductor.

On Tuesday, May 16, piano students of Linda Parr will present an additional recital, "May Madness," at 7 p.m. in Cole Concert Hall. Students are encouraged to play instruments other than the piano and invite family and friends to join in the performances.

The Music Preparatory Division has been offering musicianship classes and private instruction for East Texas students for 25 years. It is an associate member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
