SFA offering art educators' retreat this summer
Participants in the 2006 Art Educators Retreat work on one of the many art projects completed by community college, elementary, middle and high school art teachers during the four-day retreat offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art. Registrations for the 2007 retreat, June 24 through 28, are now being accepted.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are now being accepted for "Renew Yourself in Art," a four-day retreat for art educators offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art.

Open to community college, elementary, middle and high school art teachers, the retreat will be held on the SFA campus Sunday, June 24, through Thursday, June 28.

The retreat offers art educators a chance to renew their creative selves, explained Marsha Blount, SFA instructor of art and director of the retreat. "We will offer stimulating studio workshops with professional artists and members of the SFA art faculty, as well as seminars on art history by SFA art historian Dr. Bradley C. Bailey."

The retreat also includes yoga sessions and a tour of the Nacogdoches downtown art galleries. Most dinner meals are provided in local restaurants. On the last evening, there will be a reception at SFA's newly renovated The Art Center @ The Old Opera House where participants' art work will be exhibited.

"The heart of the program is to provide an aesthetic experience for art educators, with time and space to devote to their own artistic development," Blount said.

Continuing Professional Education credits may be obtained through participation.

All meals, art supplies and on-campus lodging in one of SFA's new apartment-style residence halls are included in the $350 registration fee.

The retreat is limited to the first 30 registrants, and the registration deadline is Friday, April 27. Applications and instructions for registering are available at www.art.sfasu.edu/retreat.

For more information, e-mail Blount at blountmarsh@sfasu.edu. Inquiries should include the educator's school name, teaching level, school telephone number and e-mail address.
