SFA to honor excellent educators

Shirley Luna - April 12, 2007

Six Stephen F. Austin State University professors will be honored for their teaching abilities at the university's annual Teaching Excellence Convocation at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

The honorees include Leisha Bridwell, associate professor of human sciences; Dr. Kenneth Farrish, the Arnold Distinguished Professor of Forest Soils and Environmental Science; Dr. Alyx Frantzen, associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Rick Jones, associate professor of theatre; Dr. Doyle Srader, lecturer of communication; and Dr. Phil Stetz, assistant professor of management.

The Teaching Excellence program recognizes individuals for their contribution to the university through outstanding teaching. Each of the university's six colleges selects a member of its faculty to receive the award based on knowledge of subject matter, quality of lectures and assignments, enthusiasm for teaching, interest in and availability to students, commitment to continuous improvement, and contribution to the quality of teaching within SFA through assistance and encouragement of other faculty.

Past teaching award recipients have included Drs. Wanda Mouton, communication; Alan Sowards, elementary education; and Jim Garrett, chemistry.
