SFA bands to present free outdoor concert

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University bands will present a free "Concert in the Park" at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, on the lawn between the Wright Music Building and the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

Beginning at 1 p.m., Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band service fraternity will be selling $5 hamburger plates which include a hamburger, chips and a drink.

"We welcome individuals and families to join us for food, fellowship and some great entertainment by all four bands," said Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands.

The Concert Band, co-directed by SFA Associate Director of Bands David W. Campo and Graduate Assistant Weston Fisher, will open the concert, followed by the Symphonic Band, under the direction of Kevin Whitelaw, adjunct faculty member.

The Wind Symphony, also directed by Campo, will perform H. Owen Reed's "La Fiesta Mexicana," among other numbers.

The Wind Ensemble, directed by Allen, will close the concert with "Symphonic Dance No. 3" by Clifton Williams, Percy Grainger's "Irish Tune from the County Derry" and the last movement of Ottorino Respighi's "The Pines of Rome."

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be presented in Room 121 of the Wright Music Building.
