NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - John Perrine, assistant professor and director of jazz studies at Cleveland State University, will present a guest saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. The recital is free and open to the public.
Saxophonist Brian Utley, SFA assistant professor of music who has known Perrine for 10 years, invited Perrine to campus to work with and perform for SFA's saxophone players. Utley will join Perrine in performing Paul Hindemith's "Konzertstuck."
Also on the program is "William Price's "Rush Hour," a work written specifically for Perrine; Claude Debussy's "Rhapsodie" and Perrine's own "Impromptu No. 1."
Perrine holds a doctorate from Louisiana State University, a master's from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University. He has premiered words by Kari Juusela, Aaron Johnson and William Price.
