The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents elected new officers during the April meeting. Elected were Valerie Ertz of Dallas, chair; James Thompson of Sugar Land, vice chair; and Joe Max Green of Nacogdoches, secretary.

Ertz is president and owner of VEE Services Inc., a property tax and accounting firm. She is a member of the Assistance League of Dallas, Dallas Executives Association, Public Affairs Luncheon Club, Texas Women's Initiative and the Conservative Leaders Investment Club. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree in management from Troy State University.

Ertz also will serve on the university’s strategic planning committee to develop a five-year plan for the university.

Thompson of Sugar Land is president and founder of Team Associates, Inc. He has served as mayor pro tem, city council member and airport council liaison for the City of Sugar Land. Thompson has also served on the board of the Sugar Land 4B Corporation and the Houston Galveston Area Council. He received a bachelor's degree from SFA and is a life member of the SFA Alumni Association.

Green, a 1960 graduate of SFA with a bachelor’s degree in business, is chairman and CEO of Joe Max Green Insurance Concepts and regional vice president of the Texas Association of Insurance Agents. Green is also president of The Fredonia Hotel Corporation, past president of the Nacogdoches Booster Club, past president of the Nacogdoches Jaycees, and past president of Piney Woods Country Club. He is a member of the Nacogdoches Rotary Club and the Nacogdoches Economic Development Committee. He is a former board member of the SFA University Foundation.

Green has been recognized by the university with the SFA Distinguished Alumni Award and has been inducted into the SFA University Hall of Honor. He has been awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award by Rotary International and has been recognized by the community as Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

Appointed to the SFA Board of Regents by Gov. Rick Perry, Ertz and Green will serve on the board through 2009. Thompson’s term expires in 2011.
