NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the SFA Wind Ensemble's "American Composer Showcase," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.
David W. Campo, SFA associate director of bands, will direct the premiere of his band transcription of "Ebullience," a piece originally written for trumpet ensemble by Stephen Lias, SFA associate professor of composition.
"This is the third piece by Steve that the Wind Ensemble has performed this year," said Campo. "His music is getting played now around the world, and are happy to be a part of that."
Ronnie Pruitt, graduate student from Hemphill, will conduct "Passacaglia" by American composer Ron Nelson, and the band will also perform "Strange Humors" by John Mackey, a rising star on the American composition scene, according to Fred J. Allen, director of SFA bands and the Wind Ensemble.
Also on the program will be two orchestral works, "The Flying Dutchman" by Richard Wagner and "Dance of the Actors" by Pytor Tchaikovsky.
W.M. Turner Auditorium is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building at 2222 Alumni Drive.
