SFA bands to present free outdoor concert

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University bands will present a free "Concert in the Park" at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, on the lawn between the Wright Music Building and the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

Beginning at 1 p.m., Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band service fraternity, will be selling $5 hamburger plates which include a hamburger, chips and a drink.

"We welcome individuals and families to join us for food, fellowship and some great entertainment by all four bands," said Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands.

The University Band, co-directed by SFA Associate Director of Bands David W. Campo and Graduate Assistant Kenneth Peters, will open the concert with Karl L. King's "Burma Patrol," among other selections.

The Symphonic Band, under the baton of SFA Assistant Director of Bands Brett A. Richardson, will perform Henry Fillmore's march, "Americans We," and Andrew Boysen's "Kirkpatrick Fanfare."

The Wind Symphony, also directed by Campo, will perform portions excerpts from Robert Russell Bennett's "Symphonic Songs."

The Wind Ensemble, directed by Allen, will close the concert with "Glory of the Yankee Navy" by John Philip Sousa, John Mackey's "Strange Humors" and Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Actors."

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be presented in Room 121 of the Wright Music Building.
