NACOGDOCEHS, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the University Band and Symphonic Band in a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.
The University Band, formerly known as the Concert Band, will open the concert with an exciting program, said David W. Campo, SFA associate director of bands. Campo will direct Frank Ticheli's "Shenandoah," and Kenneth Peters, conducting graduate student from Bellville, will direct Karl L. King's "Burma Patrol."
Peters will also direct "Sorcery Suite," an adventurous piece that will lead the listener through a few of the marvelous adventures of the Harry Potter saga, the director said.
During the Symphonic Band's portion of the program, Jerry Gonzalez, graduate assistant from Garland, will guest conduct a transcription of J.S. Bach's "Prelude and fugue in B-flat Major."
Under the direction of Brett A. Richardson, SFA assistant director of bands, the Symphonic Band will also perform Tielman Susato's "The Danserye" and Andrew Boysen's "Kirkpatrick Fanfare," a work that combines rudimental drumming with a dance-like setting of "Danny Boy."
Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please visit www.sfasu.edu/finearts or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
