Participants in a recent Kindermusik "Village" class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division take a break from one of the numerous activities designed to unfold a child's natural gifts with moments of discovery.
The Kindermusik Village classes for newborns through 18-month-olds offered through the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will now be offered from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays instead of on Mondays, as originally published. The classes will run from Sept. 11 to Oct. 30.
The Village class, taught by certified Kindermusik teacher Karen Greer, gives the parent and child "the opportunity to share in the magical moments that happen through music, movement, touch and sound," said Pat Barnett, Music Preparatory Division director. "The class is founded on the research that tells us the impact music has on earliest cognitive, social and emotional development."
The $110 tuition covers eight classes plus take-home materials for the parent to extend the learning at home, including a compact disc of music and art and books that will aid the babies in visual tracking, shape and color recognition and language development.
Other Kindermusik classes offered are "Our Time," designed for children 18 months to 3 years of age, and "Imagine That," designed for 3- to 5-year-olds.
Both classes will meet on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 6, and ending Nov. 29. "Our Time" will meet from 5:30 to 6:15, and "Imagine That" will meet from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Cost for "Our Time" is $170. Tuition for "Imagine That" is $180.
The Music Preparatory Division also offers private lessons in piano, harp, Suzuki violin, traditional violin, fiddle, cello, classical guitar, saxophone, percussion, flute and voice and membership in the Piney Woods Youth Orchestra and three youth choirs. Barnett said adults, too, are welcome to enroll in private lessons or enroll in the intermediate adult piano class.
