NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty members Christina Guenther, flute, and Ron Petti, piano, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
"For this recital, we've selected works that are a challenge for both of us, " explained Guenther. "The piano parts are much more than mere 'accompaniments.'"
"For instance, the first movement of J.S. Bach's 'Sonata in G minor, BWV 120' has a very active keyboard part. Carl Reinecke's 'Undine' sonata is one of the few Romantic works for flute and is quite demanding, especially for the pianist." Guenther continued.
The duo will also perform Bohuslav Martinu's "Sonata for Flute and Piano," which was written in 1945 during the composer's American period, and Eldin Burton's "Sonatina for Flute and Piano."
"The Burton sonatina closes with a fun, fast-paced, dance-like movement with a catchy recurring motive. It's sure to be a crowd pleaser!" Guenther exclaimed.
The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the School of Music.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
