SFA students named most valuable at advertising competition

Stephen F. Austin State University students participated in the Houston
Advertising Federation Conference and Competition and earned the Most
Valuable School title. Students participating included Ashleigh Fontenot,
Diamond Brooks, Earlest Small, Alexis McGehee, Felisha Cockran, Zack Maxey,
Marquita Gray, Chad Day, Ashley McClure, Devin Greer, Katy Moffitt, Courtney Rogers, Haley Hoskins, Jacque Parker, Jennifer Hyde, Joe Combo, Katherine Burr, Kyle Koestner, Leah Edwards, Michael Ervin, Mike LaRocca, Milcah Ray, Nicole Natinsky, Stacey Helaire, Stephen Fashoro, Theo Civitello, Theresa Machac, Leah Cicirello, Nathaniel Delle, Timothy Hallila, Amanda Rose Johnson, Laura McCord, Meredith Prior, Matthew Walker Smith and Holly Yurchick.

Stephen F. Austin State University students earned the Most Valuable School title at the Houston Advertising Federation Conference and Competition. Thirty-seven SFA art, communication and marketing students competed with 11 other schools, including the University of Texas, Oklahoma State University,
the University of Houston and Sam Houston State University.

Students had one day to create a full advertising campaign for a national construction software company. Three SFA students on the first-place team were Holly Yurchick of the art department, Theresa Machac of communication, and Earlest Small from the marketing department.

Stacey Helaire and Theo Civitello, communication students, were on the second place team. Joseph Combo from communication was on the third place team.

Yurchick, an advertising design major scheduled to graduate this December, also designed nametags with an "Artistic License" theme and won the award for top nametag design.

Faculty advisers of the SFA chapter of the American Marketing Association are Dr. Marlene Kahla and Barbara Bieber-Hamby. Faculty adviser for the Association of Men and Women in Communication is Linda Bond. Peter Andrew is faculty adviser of the AdHoc Club, SFA's chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

SFA's Most Valuable Team title was based on total points earned in the competition.
