Dr. Adam Peck Named SFA Dean of Student Affairs

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – Dr. Adam Peck, director of Student Life at Saint Louis University, will join Stephen F. Austin State University as dean of Student Affairs Jan. 7, 2008.

Peck will be responsible for development and management of staff and programs in Counseling and Career Services, Disability Services, Health Services, Judicial Office, Multicultural Center, Office of Student Activities and the Office of Student Life. He will report to Vice President for University Affairs Steve Westbrook.

At Saint Louis University, Peck has been responsible for the Department of Student Life, The Cross Cultural Center, and the Center for Leadership and Community Service since July 2005. He has worked closely with faculty to create a new service-learning program, develop student organization advisor training programs, and initiate a new developmental leadership program.

From December 2001 to June 2005, Peck was senior Student Affairs administrator at the University of Texas at Austin. He administered student affairs, student organizations, leadership and event planning functions for the Texas Union student center. He also worked to create an intercultural dialogue and increase campus unity by developing the Diversity Week and Unite Texas programs. In 2002, he received the University of Texas at Austin Eyes of Texas Excellence Award, an award for excellence in university service presented annually to six faculty or staff members.

Peck previously has served as director of Student Activities/Orientation/Alumni Student Center at Texas Lutheran University. He also held the positions of director of Student Activities/Student Center and residence director/Greek affairs coordinator at McKendree College in Illinois.

In addition to numerous presentations to professional campus activities and student leadership groups, Peck has written articles published in periodicals of The Association of College Unions International and National Association for Campus Activities.

Peck earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He also received an M.A. from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and a B.A. from Lewis University in Illinois.
