Stephen F. Austin State University interior design students and faculty members stand among the exhibits comprising "Essence of Design," currently on display at the Museum of East Texas. The exhibit continues through May 4.

Whether your taste in interior design is contemporary or traditional, it will be represented at the interior design showcase presented by Stephen F. Austin State University at the Museum of East Texas, 503 North Second St., Lufkin.

The show is a compilation of individual projects of 34 senior interior design students reflecting work completed throughout their college careers.

"An exhibition of such a kind gives students a chance to get their projects in order so they either apply to graduate school or find a job in the commercial or residential industry of design," said Sally Ann Swearingen, interior design coordinator at SFA. "In addition, it is a great opportunity for high school students or the community to learn more about the profession. There are so many facets of interior design from space planning, rendering, computer-aided drafting, writing specifications and designing furniture, to commercial design and residential design."

Interior design students are required to minor in art, Swearingen said, and many of the senior vignettes include art pieces.

Interior design workshops are being scheduled for area teachers, guidance counselors and individuals interested in interior design from 8:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Feb. 17, Feb. 24 or on March 24.

SFA senior interior design students will lead school groups on tours of the exhibition from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 24, and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. March 31, April 28 or May 3.

To make a reservation for a guided tour, call (936) 468-4502.

The exhibition will continue through May 4. Self-guided tours are available during museum hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
