NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Friends of the Visual Arts Board is planning a series of studio and home visits as a way of honoring 2006 members of the Friends of the Arts-Art and 2006 contributors to the SFA Gallery Development Fund.

Ster Dubberly, the board's arts events chairperson, explained that the various offerings are designed to show the board's appreciation for the contributors' financial help with bringing quality art exhibitions to Nacogdoches and the renovation of The Art Center in downtown Nacogdoches.

"Of course, we also hope that the series encourages people to make donations," said Dubberly. "We've got some exciting opportunities lined up, and the more people give, the more events they can experience. All donations are cumulative."

Contributors who have given at the $100 or above level will be invited to an evening in the home of Dr. David Lewis, director of the SFA School of Art, on Saturday, March 4. Lewis, an art historian, will share some of his expertise on collecting and enjoying various art forms, from lithographs to tea pots. He owns a contemporary home on Raguet Street designed by local architect Jerry Sutton.

In late April, contributors of $200 or more will enjoy a cocktail party and visit to the studio of nationally known artist Bob Kinsell, SFA professor of art. Kinsell has been a member of the SFA faculty for 14 years and has exhibited extensively in Houston, Chicago, the Gulf Coast and the Midwest.

Supporters who have given $300 or more will be treated to a summer afternoon soirée in the studio of Mary Fielding McCleary, retired Regents Professor. McCleary's work has been widely exhibited in galleries in 24 states, Mexico and Russia.

In September, the Friends of the Visual Arts Board will host the second annual Fabulous Friends' Dinner for patrons who have donated $500 or more. The gourmet dinner, complete with live entertainment, will be held in the home of Mike White and Dr. Shannon Smith.

"Tables of eight will be decorated and furnished with exquisite and unique place settings by some of Nacogdoches' best host and hostesses," Dubberly said.

Contributors of $1,000 or more will be honored with a sponsorship of one of the 2006-2007 art exhibitions at SFA. Gallery director Shannon Bailey said she is already working on securing some "fantastic and quality shows" for the upcoming season.

Anyone wishing to make a donation toward the Friends of the Visual Arts-Art or toward the SFA Gallery Development Fund should contact Bailey at (936) 468-1131.
