NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Three members of the Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty will present "American Piano Trios Revisited" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall.

Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Evgeni Raychev, cello; and Ron Petti, piano; will perform piano trios "Vitebsk" by Aaron Copland and "Piano Trio No. 1" by Gerald M. Shapiro. They will also perform "Café Music" by Paul Schoenfield.

"We first presented these pieces at a September concert," explained Petti. "We all enjoyed preparing the first concert so much, and especially after having the composer Gerald Shapiro provide a master class of his trio and attend the concert, we simply had to do it again."

Petti said the February concert will also include a couple of pieces by South American composer Astor Piazolla.

The trio is considering touring the program and performing it at Florida State University since they are all alumni of that institution.

"We're also exploring the possibility of performing it in London this summer while we are all there with the SFA A Cappella Choir's European Tour," said Petti.

The program's emphasis on American piano trios makes it rather unique, according to Petti. Many audience members may not be as familiar with these pieces as they are with those by European composers.

"We are very fortunate in this country to have such a diverse and comprehensive selection of piano trio repertoire from which to choose, and we are pleased to be sharing some of them once again," Petti said.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
