Students invited to share views with local businesses at summit

February 14, 2006– Susan Hammons

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS-Stephen F. Austin State University students have the opportunity to tell local businesses such information as what products and services they desire at the SFA-Business Summit 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the University Center Spirit Lounge.

The purpose of the free event is to bring business and community leaders to campus to allow students to ask them questions. The summit is sponsored by the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and the SFA-Chamber Connection, a chamber committee working on issues of mutual benefit to the university and the community.

In addition to finding where to locate their favorite products or services in Nacogdoches, students can recommend how businesses can adapt hours of operation to students' needs. They also can learn what types of jobs are available and how to find employment.

"This is the third year for this forum to be held," said D'nese Haddox, associate director of housing at SFA and chair of the summit's planning committee. "We have approximately 20 businesses and community organizations that will have tables showcasing their products and services. The event also will feature a panel of 10 business and community leaders."

Businesses will include banks; health care and fitness providers; cellular telephone, courier, mailing, sewing and telecommunication services; and book, music and custom silkscreen merchants. City, county and university representatives also will participate.

"We encourage all students to stop by to visit with the participants and ask questions of the panel," Haddox said. "This is a great opportunity for our students to let their voices be heard."

Door prizes will include backstage passes for a concert, rodeo tickets, and gift certificates and gift baskets from various establishments.

For interviews, contact: D'Nese Haddox, Business Summit chair, 468-2332; and Amber Lara, Business Summit student representative, 468-3500.
