Choirs to present joint concert

Stephen F. Austin State University Chamber Women's Choir and Choral Union

Under the direction of Michael Dean, the Stephen F. Austin State University Choral Union performs during a recent concert. The Choral Union and Chamber Women's Choir will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in Cole Concert Hall.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Chamber Women's Choir and Choral Union will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in Cole Concert Hall.

Titled "Songs of . . .," the concert will feature a variety of works from contemporary compositions to pieces composed nearly four hundred years ago, explained Michael Dean, assistant professor of music and director of both choirs. "Some are songs of God, others songs of love; all are songs that speak to the heart."

The Chamber Women's Choir will perform compositions by Johannes Brahms, including his often-performed "Ave Maria" and a set of love songs.

The Choral Union's portion of the program will also feature a variety of love songs. Two are from Texas composer Robert Young, and others are from Scotland and France.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music.
