World-renowned pianist to perform at SFA

Internationally acclaimed pianist Andreas Klein will perform with the Salzburg Chamber Soloists during a 7:30 p.m. concert on Monday, March 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University. The concert is a part of the SFA College of Fine Arts' University Series.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - World-renowned pianist Andreas Klein will perform W.A. Mozart's "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in C Major, KV 415" during the Salzburg Chamber Soloists' concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. The concert is a part of the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts' University Series.

A graduate of the Julliard School, Klein has appeared as a soloist and with orchestras throughout the world, performing his repertoire that ranges from Baroque to 20th century works.

Klein's career has taken him to some of the world's most prestigious venues, including London's Wigmore Hall, Berlin's Philharmonic Hall, New York's Carnegie Hall, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, Houston's Wortham Center and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He has toured Europe, Russia, the Middle East and throughout the United States.

In his native Germany, a "Musician's Portrait" was filmed for ORB TV in conjunction with a concert at the Neuhardenberg Castle near Berlin. He has been heard frequently on National Public Radio's "Performance Today" and on numerous syndicated and local radio programs such as KUHF Houston and WGBH Boston. He created a series of short works by composers called "Intermezzo with Andreas Klein" that has been carried by Public Broadcasting Service stations nationwide.

Klein has received exceptional reviews for his compact discs "Beethoven/ Berg Piano Sonatas" and "Dancing Through Time: Bach to Gershwin," both recorded on the Eroica label. "Dancing" was featured in a two-hour special edition of "The Piano Bench" at KUHF Radio in Houston.

The Salzburg Chamber Soloists will also perform Mozart's "Divertimento in D Major, KV 136," Franz Schubert's "Five Minuets and Six Trios," an orchestral arrangement of Ludwig van Beethoven's "String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95" and Astor Piazolla's "Four Tango Sensations."

Prior to the concert, the College of Fine Arts will host a 6:45 p.m. reception in Griffith Gallery honoring the event's corporate sponsor, BancorpSouth of Nacogdoches. At 7 p.m. pianist Andrew Parr, SFA professor of music, will give an informative talk on the concert.
