NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University's jazz bands, the Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces, will perform music from the Latin influence and from the big band repertoire during a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.
"The Swingin' Axes have prepared an exciting program of well known big band tunes," said director Deb Scott, SFA assistant professor of music.
Josh High, Nederland graduate student, will conduct "Autumn Leaves," arranged by Gary Carney. The band will also perform "Here's that Rainy Day" by Johnny Burke and James Van Heusen. This selection will feature the group's trombone section and trumpeter Roger Marquis, Houston sophomore.

For its portion of the program, the Swingin' Axes will present music with a Latin influence.
Included on the program are "Nica's Dream" by Horace Silver, Les Hopper's arrangement of "On Green Dolphin Street" and "La Suerte se los Tontos" which was written for Stan Kenton.
