SFA to host National History Day competition

Stephen F. Austin State University will host a regional meet for the National History Day academic competition on Feb. 16.

The theme for this year's competition is Triumph and Tragedy. Entries may cover United States or world history, and students are encouraged to select an individual, idea or event and demonstrate how and why their topic was a triumph and/or a tragedy in history.

Any sixth through eighth grade student may enter the junior division. Students in 9th through 12th grade will be in the senior division.

There are five categories, with three being open to group projects and all open for individual projects. Web sites, research papers, exhibits, performances and documentaries are the available categories. The Web site and research paper categories are open to individual projects only.

The projects will be reviewed by a panel of judges, with the top four in each category moving to the state meet April 27-28 at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.
